Medical Science (AAQ)


Why Medical Science?

The Medical Science AAQ course builds upon your foundational knowledge from GCSE and introduces you to exciting developments in healthcare and biomedical science. Covering key scientific principles, it integrates practical skills throughout, making the course both academically stimulating and hands-on. You'll explore topics like human physiology, medical research, and the science behind disease treatment and prevention. As a practical, applied subject, you'll develop critical scientific and problem-solving skills, preparing you for higher education or careers in healthcare and related fields.

What do I need to know?

Exam board: We study Pearson Medical Science (AAQ) | Pearson qualifications

Entry Requirements: You should meet the standard Sixth Form requirements and also have GCSE Biology Grade 5 or above, or Combined Science Grade 5-5 or above and GCSE Mathematics Grade 5 or above.

Key Content: The course is structured into four themes. Three of these are mandatory units: principles of human anatomy, physiology and pathology; human biology and health issues; and practical microbiology and infectious diseases, in addition to one of the following optional units: diseases, disorders, treatments and therapies; biomedical science; and human reproduction and fertility.
