Performing Arts (BTEC)


Why Performing Arts?

The BTEC in Performing Arts is a double award (equivalent to 2 A levels) that is designed as an entry course for those who would like to work in the ever growing Performing Arts Industry. The vocational nature of this course provides the perfect platform for those wishing to study or train in the Performing Arts beyond Key Stage 5.  The focus of the course is practical. Students will be expected to perform in a range of productions with university standard theory underpinning the knowledge needed to progress. There is an expectation of professionalism to this course with students learning the discipline needed to succeed in the Performing Arts industry.

What do I need to know?

Exam board: We study Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Performing Arts

Entry Requirements: You should meet the standard Sixth Form requirements and also have a Grade 5 or above in Drama or Dance.

Key Content: Over the course of the two years you will cover 8 units. The units include skills in Dance, Singing, Acting & Musical Theatre and all units are responding to real world briefs. All of the work is geared to making you the professional you need to be to succeed in the Performing Arts.

Assessment

6 Mandatory, practical, assignments. Which include:

  • Investigating Practitioner’s Work
  • Developing skills and techniques for live performance
  • Group Performance Work
  • Performing Arts in the Community
  • Individual Performance Commission
  • Final Live Performance to an Audience
